September is so rich for delicious fresh garden vegetables and Farmer’s Markets that making delicious salads for your end of Summer bashes is a must. Anytime my family would go on vacation we would make sandwiches for in the car. They were easy to grab and go when traveling. However, if you are trying your best to eat less bread this and more greens, then swap the bread for this Italian Salad when on the go.
The making of a great Italian Hoagie Salad begins with Ham, Pepperoni, Salad and Cheese. If you are lactose intolerant- leave the cheese off! I actually am not, but when I made this dish I was cutting my cheese consumption because I am a cheeseaholic. It tasted AMAZING even without the cheese. Cut your Ham, Pepperoni, and Salami into bite size squares and set off to the side. What are your favorite Italian Hoagie toppings. Mine are lettuce, mild pepper rings, tomatoes, and onions- so that was the base of this salad. I also added into carrots and cucumbers because you will never go wrong with additional vegetables. Chop all your vegetables and fill your plate with as much vegetable goodness as desired, add your ham, pepperoni, and salami then sprinkling with Italian seasonings. I absolutely LOVE getting basil and oregano on my Italian Hoagie- so no limits here, add those as well if you’d like.
Italian Hoagie Salad can be enjoyed in an season but certainly is perfect to make with these fresh vegetables from your garden or local Farmer’s Market.
Italian Hoagie Salad
- Romaine Lettuce and Kale
- Black Forest Ham
- Provolone Cheese
- Italian Seasoning
- Chop the Romaine Lettuce and Kale to make a bed on plate
- Slice- Tomatoes, Onions, Carrots, and Cucumbers
- Cut Pepperoni, Salami, and Provolone Cheese into squares
- Layer on bed of lettuce
